Month 2 Results

It's October Check-In Time!

I can honestly say that I was dreading this date all month. I knew it just was not going right. My birthday kicks off this glorious month of October. And, it ends with my husband's. And Halloween plus trick-or-treating. It's been a whirlwind of sugar lately!

There was also a constant struggle with two pounds. I'd lose them but guess what? Yup, I'd find them again!! But, I did WIN with at least the scale going in the right direction. That's what matters!! Right? (I need to remind myself of that.

This is NOT a celebratory post! My goal to hit the 85 pound mark is in jeopardy as that means I need to lose 8-10 pounds in November to even consider getting through Christmas. I'm very disappointed in myself and I talk about it a bit more in this post.

October in Review

The first weekend of October, our entire family participated in the Color Run.color-run

Had a blast! The original plan had been for the four of us to run. Then the CRUD came two weeks prior for the boys. No one had trained and, quite honestly, my kids have never run for 3 miles straight. (Although, I’m sure they could do it. I just didn’t want to be lapped by my kids!) Last year, I had set a goal to run a 5K. As 2014 come to a close, I'm realizing that it will not be happening. A bit bummed; I'll admit.

I had my annual physical on October 8th. That was interesting. Doctor was very pleased with my continued weight loss. I’m down 45 pounds since my previous physical with my BMI 6 points lower (which, I know the physicians like to see this but I really don’t feel it’s an accurate portrayal of health). She also seemed very supportive in the changes I’m making when we talked about sugar and processed foods.

My screening labs came back fine. I’ve always been lucky to dodge the diabetes bullet – my glucose was in an ideal range, as usual. However, she did make a comment about slightly elevated cholesterol but, after so much research I've done on the topic,I have a really hard time believing that I need to worry.

And, since I’m not a scientist nor do I pretend to be one, I’ll just give you some references to consider reading next time you have your cholesterol checked. HERE. HERE. HERE. HERE. Or, read read this book OR this one.
Wardrobe Time!

<here is where I am celebrating!>

I’ve never been able to wear tall boots. My calves are huge! Yes, much of this is due to my weight but I’ve always had very large calves. Many other women I know and work with who are of “normal” weight, have the same issue. Needless to say how freakin’ happy I was when one Sunday we made a quick stop a store and I tried on a pair of mid-calf boots on just for kicks AND THEY FIT!

As the days have gotten much colder, I pulled out my fall/winter clothes. Going through the boxes was fun – got to toss a few items into the St. Vincent de Paul box because they were too big.

Pants. A totally different issue! One of my colleagues likes to tease me when I’m wearing such baggy pants. She’s been an awesome source of encouragement and is always making sure I know I’m doing a great job through her compliments. However, I had heard one too many “saggy crotch” comments when it came to my pants. I want to look GOOD and not look like I’m carrying a load in my drawers, if ya know what I mean! Had a few fun shopping sprees – in store and online – and now have a full wardrobe.

OK, here’s where a bear a bit of my soul to you.

In March 2013, when I started my Paleo journey and this transformation, I was wearing size 26 jeans. In many stores, that’s the highest size. At Kohl’s, they don’t carry beyond size 24. I had pants with patches ironed into the thighs because even the 26’s were getting tight. A 3x was pretty standard for tops. I never measured myself when I started this journey, either. So, I have no idea exactly how many inches have been lost.

However, my little shopping spree this month resulted in buying pants that are NOT from the plus-sized store!! I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am.  It's fun getting dressed in the morning!! Just to give you an idea of what this means, here’s the measurements from the size guides I found online.

Lane Bryant, size 26 jeans: Hips 54-56" and Waist 44-46"
Lee misses size 18 bootcut ponte pants: Hips 45-46" and Waist 35 ¾- 36 ¾"

HOLY CRAP!! That’s 20 inches right there!! Not to mention my arms, thighs and chest measurements. CRAZY!! I am melting!

So, there you have it. October results posted BEFORE I head out to take the kids trick-or-treating. (Think that's on purpose?)

Next up: Thanksgiving... Let's do this!!

Here's to your journey...
